Morocco: Aziz Akhannouch's Party as Opposition
If the National Rally for Independents Party joins the opposition ranks in Morocco, it could lead to a shift in the balance of political power. The party secured 66 seats in the House of Representatives following the September 2026 elections, while the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM) topped the scene with 97 seats. The Rally Party is considered one of the long-standing parties with a history of participation in government. Its move to the opposition is expected to spark debates about the future of political alliances, especially since many of its leaders express a desire to exit the current government. This raises questions about the possibility of reshaping the government and its coalitions, and whether there will be changes in the political initiative center following Fatima Zahra Al-Mansouri’s appointment as Prime Minister — the first woman to hold this position since Morocco’s independence in 1956.
