Lebanon's summer tourism drops 40 percent
The summer of 2026 in Lebanon had a negative impact on the tourism sector, as the economy lost approximately 40% of its income due to a decline in the number of Arab and international tourists, a decrease in the movement of expatriates, as well as the effects of security developments, rising ticket prices, and cancellations of bookings and events. Although some expatriates returned, their return was not enough to compensate for the absence of traditional tourists, leading to a roughly 35-40% decline in hotel and restaurant revenues. The lack of cultural activities and the spread of security concerns weakened the tourism map and reduced the areas benefiting from tourism, highlighting the need to diversify tourism markets to ensure a more sustainable, deeper, and longer-lasting tourism season.
