Workers' Union submits wage and rights demands
In Lebanon, a delegation from the National Federation of Labour and Employees Unions (FENASOL) submitted a demand memorandum that included calls for a comprehensive adjustment of wages, an increase of the minimum wage to the equivalent of $1,500 USD, and the adoption of a flexible salary scale that keeps pace with changing living costs. They also emphasized the necessity of ensuring that transportation allowances and family compensations are paid directly to eligible recipients, while stressing the importance of price monitoring and combating monopolies. The union rejected the trade-off between wage increases and end-of-service benefits, calling for solutions to improve the conditions of casual workers and the unemployed, the activation of direct payment mechanisms for compensations, and full access to workers’ rights for workers and their families, amid rising living costs and economic inflation.
