October 7 and the Narrative Battle
The article reviews the narratives surrounding the October 7, 2023 attack between Palestine and Israel and their impact on Arab and Western politics and media. The accounts differ regarding the starting point; Palestinians and Arabs see Hamas's attack as part of a long resistance that began with the Nakba in 1948, while Israel considers the October 7 attack as the zero point of the war. In the West, the debate has shifted from full support for Israel to questioning the effectiveness of military operations and human rights issues, with increased discussion about the credibility of the narratives and the political objectives of the war. This has been accompanied by growing criticism and divergences within both the Arab and Western camps.
