Ethiopian forces retake Mekelle Airport
The city of Mekelle, the capital of the Tigray Region in Ethiopia, has witnessed the withdrawal of Tigray People's Liberation Front fighters and leaders from the city, coinciding with advances by forces loyal to the federal government toward it. The "Tigray Peace Forces" announced that they had taken control of Mekelle Airport and are now fully in control, while also carrying out city clearance operations. However, these claims have not been independently verified as of now. This development comes amid an escalation in the armed conflict between the government and the Tigray forces, which has claimed hundreds of thousands of lives and led to the collapse of the Pretoria peace agreement, amid rising tensions since the conflict began in 2020.
