Prisoners' hunger strike raises TB risk
A total of 544 prisoners in Lebanese prisons are continuing their open hunger strike and refusal of medication for the twenty-first day, protesting the freezing of the general amnesty law. The number of critical health cases among the strikers has risen to 55, and one prisoner has been hospitalized due to a worsening health condition. The prisoners are demanding the swift provision of "KN95" masks from the Ministry of Health and associated organizations, fearing the spread of tuberculosis. They also protest the delay in their release despite the ongoing strike.
