Paris Police on Student Protests
A report indicates that the Paris police forces issued a warning stating that the student protest movement in France has gotten out of control. They called on demonstrators to shut down schools and return to peaceful behaviors. Clashes have erupted between riot police and high school students in several areas, resulting in the detention of approximately five thousand people since last Monday, and injuring dozens, including more than 600 police officers. The students are demanding the hiring of substitute teachers, reducing overcrowding in classrooms, and improving school infrastructure, blaming the government for the worsening situation due to years of underinvestment. This escalation comes as a national day of protests, organized by students, approaches, amid fears that some chaos-driven groups might exploit the protests and cause further confrontations in downtown Paris.
