Brazil readies for crucial election
Brazil is preparing to hold a decisive presidential election today, Sunday, amid expectations that a second round may be necessary due to intense competition between the candidates, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and the conservative rival, Jair Bolsonaro. Both of them concluded their campaigns with two large rallies: Lula spoke in São Paulo, expressing confidence in winning outright in the first round, while Bolsonaro participated in a motorcycle parade aimed at capitalizing on the increasing wave of conservatism in the region. Recent polling results indicate a close race between the candidates, increasing the likelihood of final results being announced after the second round on October 25th.
