Judicial delays amid misused support funds
The article focused on the ongoing investigations regarding support funds disbursed from the Central Bank of Lebanon's reserves, which benefited various companies and institutions between 2019 and 2023. It addresses the lack of clarity and fragmentation of previous information, as the forensic audit conducted by Alvarez & Marsal begins, aiming to trace the paths of the funds and ensure that the support reached the eligible beneficiaries and was used for its intended purposes. The potential findings could indicate the possibility of recoverable public funds that were converted into private profits or used improperly, highlighting the importance of investigating how companies benefited and whether the funds actually reached citizens as intended. If it is confirmed that the support was properly directed, it would strengthen the country's financial accountability; if irregularities are found, the case will be subject to accountability and recovery of the misappropriated amounts.
