Washington deports migrant to Eswatini in secret program
A secret deportation operation was carried out in July 2025 involving migrant Von Shomsavanah and four others, who were unexpectedly transferred amidst complex legal procedures without prior notice to Eswatini on a military aircraft as part of a covert American program that sparked widespread controversy. The migrants had been sentenced in the United States but served their sentences before being deported to prisons in Eswatini, where they remained in custody for over a year. Currently, U.S. authorities are taking steps to deport Shomsavanah to Laos, following his release, as part of the ongoing, undisclosed, and unconventional deportation process previously announced by his lawyer.
