France suspends classes in 400 high schools
France is preparing for a new wave of student and worker protests, with expectations of expanded union support and a broader reach beyond the current student movement. These actions follow previous violent disturbances that resulted in injuries and damages estimated at two million euros, during which hundreds of schools were disrupted and classes were partially or fully halted due to safety threats. French Education Minister Édouard Geffray announced the suspension of classes in between 400 and 500 schools following attacks on buildings and staff, and indicated that the violence was the result of infiltration by radical left-wing activists. This situation has put educational sector workers at risk, leading to 78 injuries among staff members since the beginning of the crisis.
