Election laws before subcommittee
The news reports that the parliamentary subcommittee is resuming its discussion of Lebanon's parliamentary election law, amid fears that this step could open the door to another delay of the elections or lead to political complications. This concern is heightened by the opposition of political forces such as the Lebanese Forces, which emphasize the need to enforce the current law and warn that open-ended discussions might threaten the stability of the electoral system and distract from more pressing issues like the weapons file. Sources indicate that attempts to reopen the debate may be led by Speaker of Parliament Nabil Berri, aiming to change the electoral formula. This reflects deep disagreements and political rivalry over shaping the future electoral law.
