Israel Plans South Occupation Expansion
The southern region of Lebanon experienced a widespread Israeli escalation that included aerial bombings, artillery shelling, and explosive operations aimed at igniting the southern areas. Israeli aircraft targeted towns such as Al-Qantara, Kfar Tabniyet, and Al-Mansouri, with the bombing campaigns expanding into areas within Lebanon like Wadi Zbaqine and the vicinity of Miehoul. There were hints of Israeli preparations for a long-term presence, including the fortification of sites and improved road networks, with the goal of turning these areas into depopulated zones and establishing new factual realities on the ground. Meanwhile, Hezbollah insists on refusing any dialogue with the Lebanese authorities, considering the government's decisions to betray sovereignty and perpetuate occupation. Lebanese lawmakers are taking steps to call on the United Nations to reconsider the decision to keep UNIFIL forces in the south. Additionally, tensions are rising amid increased Israeli preparations for long-term operations inside Lebanese territory.
