Flávio Bolsonaro leads Lula in poll
The article discusses the presidential elections in Brazil, where the right-wing candidate, Flávio Bolsonaro, leads the incumbent president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, after the first round. They will face each other in a runoff election, with Bolsonaro having secured 47.27% of the votes compared to 44.88% for Lula at that time, after 98.64% of the votes had been counted. A second round is expected to take place because neither candidate achieved the required percentage for a direct victory. The article explains that the results confirm a runoff is mathematically inevitable, as the election campaigns remain closely contested between the candidates.
