Japanese woman's murder sparks US military outrage
An American soldier working at Futenma Air Base in Okinawa was arrested by the prefectural police on suspicion of being involved in the murder of a 39-year-old local woman. He is accused of stealing her belongings at a hotel in Naha built by the soldier. The victim's body was found with signs of strangulation, and surveillance cameras showed the suspect entering and leaving the hotel alone. The suspect was later detained on a street in the entertainment district. The incident sparked widespread outrage within the local community and fierce criticism of the U.S. military's procedures, especially given the repeated occurrence of similar cases. Concerns were also raised regarding the discipline of U.S. forces and the review of military relations between Japan and the United States.
