Rubio's Europe Tour Aims to Reinforce US Arctic Influence
The article reveals U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio's visit to Iceland as part of a European tour aimed at boosting American influence in the Arctic region, following Washington’s signing of a security agreement with Denmark and Greenland. This visit comes after the announcement of the agreement that dispelled previous threats from Trump regarding the purchase or annexation of Greenland. It also reflects the increasing strategic importance of the area in international competition over energy resources and the Arctic passages. This marks the first visit by a U.S. Secretary of State to Iceland since 2021, focusing on security and economic cooperation. Afterwards, Rubio will head to Greece to discuss security and energy issues amid ongoing challenges posed by energy crises and regional conflicts.
