Lebanon's Florida gamble and delays
The article discusses the upcoming military meeting in Florida between Lebanon and Israel, which appears to be an attempt to pass the time amid stalled political negotiations regarding the Lebanese-Israeli file. The Lebanese side links this meeting to the American effort to pressure Israel and encourage de-escalation, but the reality shows Israeli military escalation and a clear American disregard in this area. Beirut fears that Netanyahu may exploit the waiting period to impose a new status quo in the occupied territories, especially given the uncertainty about the future of UNIFIL's mission, with Israel continuing to be stubborn and negotiations making little progress. Sources indicate that the likelihood of genuine progress is slim, and that the meeting may only be used to mitigate damage, amid concerns of a potential Israeli escalation and the imposition of new deterrence lines in the region.
