Lebanon faces presidential deadlock anew
The article discusses the economic and political situation in Lebanon, focusing on the disruption of efforts toward economic reform due to the challenge filed by the President against the bank reform law, and how this impacts reaching an agreement with the International Monetary Fund. It explains that political disagreements within the government and financial institutions hinder the implementation of essential reforms, such as the law addressing the banks’ conditions and the distribution of losses, which threatens Lebanon’s return to a path of financial stability. Additionally, it highlights concerns about reviving certain laws that limit the Central Bank’s independence, and the potential impact on the stability of the banking system, amid expectations that progress on financial reforms will be delayed until the judicial challenge is resolved.
