Warning of Chernobyl-like Disaster
Concerns are growing in Siberia following the death of a young researcher from a Russian institute specializing in plague research, amid quarantine measures and monitoring that included over 200 people, after she developed an unspecified pneumonia. Russian authorities have not yet confirmed any link between her death and the illness, despite fears that she may have contracted plague pneumonia. A former CIA official warned of the possibility that Russia might attempt to cover up the incident, considering that ignoring it could evoke memories of the Chernobyl disaster and raise doubts about the declining trust in Russian leadership, especially given the ongoing mystery surrounding the circumstances of her death.
