Baari and Salama push electrification plan
The electricity issue is back at the forefront of Lebanese concerns following a meeting between Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri and Prime Minister Nabih Salami. They underscored the need for a "radical solution," whether through a "BOT" system or an Lebanese-international agreement, in an attempt to improve the electricity sector, which has long suffered from poor services and delayed achievements. The discussion focused on funding and implementation methods, including defining clear projects and timelines, emphasizing the importance of the responsible parties taking accountability, as well as determining costs and necessary legislation. Although the conversation remained within the realm of options without pinpointing definitive solutions, the meeting is seen as an opportunity to test the extent of political consensus capable of producing practical steps and tangible results that citizens can feel in terms of electricity service improvements.
