Al-Salihin Abd al-Nabi new Libyan House Speaker
The Libyan House of Representatives, based in the eastern part of the country, elected Saleh Abdel Nabi as its new Speaker, succeeding Aguila Saleh after nearly 12 years in office. This decision reflects escalating disagreements among the deputies regarding his leadership style. The move followed the approval of 98 members for a new regulation that limits the terms of the Speaker and his two deputies to 12 months, ending a system that has been in place since 2014. It is worth noting that Abdel Nabi belongs to the same tribe as Saleh, represents the city of Tobruk, and currently serves as the head of the Libyan-Turkish Friendship Committee in Parliament. He holds a master's degree in civil engineering. The political divide in Libya—rich in oil and gas—is characterized by ongoing conflicts between the eastern government, led by Haftar, and the internationally recognized Government of National Accord based in Tripoli.
