U.S. advises Americans to exit Russia over plague concerns
The U.S. Department of State issued a quick warning to Americans to leave Russia immediately amid concerns over the spread of the plague following the death of a laboratory employee at the Infectious Disease Research Institute in Irkutsk, Siberia. Russian authorities denied implementing measures to combat the plague, stating they are in control of the situation and that the cause of death has not been definitively determined, despite reports suggesting potential infection with pneumonic plague due to a broken test tube. This comes amid increasing international and health organization worries about the disease's threat, as the U.S. State Department called for transparency and the adoption of additional precautionary measures.
