Tourism Ministers Discuss 2030 Baptism Event
Jordan issued an official invitation to Lebanon, including the state and the church, to participate in the global celebration scheduled for 2030 marking the two-thousandth anniversary of the baptism of Jesus Christ at the site of the Jordan River. The invitation came during the visit of Jordanian Minister of Tourism, Imad Hajazeen, to Beirut to learn from Lebanon’s experience in organizing pilgrimage routes and religious tourism. During his visit, he met with senior religious and political officials in Lebanon. The Jordanian official emphasized that the shared spiritual heritage between the two countries represents a humanitarian and historical responsibility, and calls for strengthening cooperation, especially with the presence of the Maronite Church in Lebanon and building upon the project of a Maronite church at the site of the Baptism. It is expected that there will be broad participation from both sides in the celebrations of 2030.
