No foreign troops in Southern Lebanon
The article discusses the necessity of refraining from permanently deploying foreign forces in southern Lebanon. Instead, it calls for the establishment of an international transitional mechanism focused on building the Lebanese Army's capabilities and transferring security responsibilities, while maintaining only a training and operational role. It emphasizes that the continued military presence of Hezbollah in the south hampers the sovereignty of the state, and that Israeli threats, especially after October 7, 2023, push toward gradually supporting the transfer of responsibilities to the Lebanese Army to ensure regional stability, with specific and effective international participation. The article also underscores the importance of properly directing financial resources, training Lebanese forces, and avoiding rigid timelines during the transition to ensure a successful security handover.
