The article addresses the importance of a sustainable media strategy to combat terrorism, despite its diminished presence on the ground. It emphasizes that success in countering extremism is not measured solely by stopping attacks or disarming perpetrators, but also by increasing the ability to detect the manipulation by extremist groups and rejecting the justification of violence. The focus is on understanding the sources of mobilization and the pathways of influence. It underscores the necessity of distinguishing between extremist ideas and individuals, and targeting the logic that justifies violence, especially since terrorism is not limited to any particular religion and can be exploited for political or racist purposes. Furthermore, the article highlights the crucial role of media in cognitive resilience through educating the public about manipulation tactics, offering alternative explanations, and training journalists for responsible coverage, while ensuring a balanced presentation that highlights victims and accountability. Effective media treatment requires studying the audience and influence pathways, producing preventive content, and coordinating among relevant institutions to ensure the effectiveness of efforts to limit the spread of extremist ideas and prevent their reproduction, ultimately aiming to protect society from the resurgence of violence.
