Syria's Representation Complex
The article discusses the doctrinal disagreement between the Asharites and Salafis in Syria. It revealed that Sheikh Osama Al-Refai's statement that Asharite doctrine constitutes the religion of Islam provoked a furious response from the Salafis, who saw it as a threat to religious identity. He explained that Asharites represent the dominant sect in Syria, but their belief—that God is determining and controlling destiny—complicates the country's national development process. They believe that divine laws have general and specific rules that grant humans the freedom to act, while still requiring them to respect these divine laws. The article indicates that the religious conflict has become openly apparent and is seen as a challenge to the social and political cohesion within the country.
