U.S. Aircraft Carrier Returns from Gulf Mission
The American aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln has returned to its home port on the West Coast after a lengthy nearly-year-long deployment in the Gulf, raising concerns about the health of the crew members. The carrier participated in military operations in the South China Sea before being directed to the Middle East prior to the start of American and Israeli strikes on Iran in February 2026. During the mission, the combat group executed approximately 10,000 air sorties and logged 23,000 combat flight hours, and was awarded the Presidential Citation for its bravery. Despite the military success, health and psychological concerns among the crew surfaced; the Trump administration acknowledged eight suicide attempts among personnel, amid limited food supplies due to logistics challenges during the war. The Department of Defense praised the crew’s bravery and affirmed that the mission was exceptional, despite media controversy surrounding the crew’s health conditions and expenses.
