Nidal Hassan, Fort Hood attacker facing live execution
The U.S. Department of Defense, "Pentagon," announced the execution of Nidal Malik Hasan by firing squad, marking the first such execution by the U.S. military since 1945. Nidal Hasan, a former psychiatrist with the rank of captain, was convicted of a mass shooting at Fort Hood military base in Texas in 2009, which resulted in the deaths of 13 people and injuries to 32 others. The sentence is scheduled to be carried out on December 3, 2026, following the recent announcement of the execution date. This development has reopened discussions about the reasons behind the death penalty, its historical significance, and the messages it conveys.
