US sanctions threat targets party
The American pressures on Lebanon are intensifying to impose strict financial measures aimed at restricting the financing of Hezbollah and preventing the reconstruction of its capabilities. These measures include sanctions against individuals and financial institutions linked to the party, as well as the closure of banks and currency exchange firms involved in managing its funds. Washington is also urging the Lebanese to tighten regulations to prevent money smuggling, viewing Hezbollah’s aid to war-affected populations as nothing more than an attempt to obscure the actual financial flows. The U.S. believes that Lebanon is playing a waiting game without implementing American directives and is warning of the possible reimposition of sanctions to achieve its objectives. The focus remains on completely dismantling Hezbollah, including shutting down financial institutions like Iran’s Export Bank in Lebanon.
