Turk urges swift steps to shield ICC from US sanctions
The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, called for immediate action to protect the International Criminal Court from American sanctions. He described the sanctions imposed by the United States as unacceptable and temporary, as they target staff and operations through retaliatory measures aimed at undermining the Court's efforts to promote accountability for serious human rights violations. He emphasized that these measures could negatively impact the Court’s work and limit its ability to deliver justice, warning of their repercussions on international efforts to hold perpetrators of war crimes and major violations accountable.
