EU allows troop stay in Lebanon
A Lebanese source has reported that the European Union is implementing a plan to establish a new, non-military mission to support the Lebanese army and internal security forces, with the goal of strengthening the state's control over all Lebanese territory and consolidating the monopoly over weapons. This move comes after the end of UNIFIL's mandate, amid American and Israeli rejection of a proposal to form an alternative European force. The new mission aims to train and enhance the capabilities of Lebanese forces, while maintaining financial and political support from the European Union, including 505 million euros allocated for 2026 and 2027, in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
