Israel Reassesses Hezbollah Targeting
According to the article, the Israeli occupation has re-expanded its rules of engagement and targeted the Beqaa Valley region in Lebanon for the first time since the signing of the US-Iranian memorandum of understanding in June. They carried out a drone strike on a vehicle in Al-Housh Al-Sayyid Ali, resulting in six injuries, including two Syrian women. The likely aim was an unsuccessful assassination attempt. These operations serve as a security and political message from Israel to Lebanon, indicating a retreat from their previous commitments to regional agreements and established rules of engagement. They eliminate red lines regarding strikes on Lebanese territory and expand the deterrence zone from the northern border with Syria to the Beqaa Valley. These escalations come ahead of the Israeli elections, and observers fear that targeted killings and strikes are being used as tactics to hinder Hezbollah and increase pressure on the Lebanese government.
