Brussels ready to approve new Moscow sanctions
European Union Foreign Policy Chief, Kyia Calas, announced that EU foreign ministers intend to approve the largest package of sanctions against Russia since the outset of the Ukraine conflict during a meeting on Monday. This step comes after the agreement on the 21st set of sanctions faltered in July, with Europeans aiming to impose restrictions focused on "countering sanctions evasion" without implementing broad-based measures, drawing on previous experience. Russia responded, through its foreign ministry, to the threat of new sanctions, affirming that it would not accept them and would retaliate in kind. Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin considered that the sanctions aim to weaken Russia and have a significant impact on the global economy. Moscow stresses its resilience in the face of ongoing sanctions and views the European Union as lacking the courage to admit the failure of these measures.
