US Rejects European Alternatives to UNIFIL
The article reveals a rising wave of suspicions regarding internal plans by Hezbollah, amid growing concerns over the party's involvement in dangerous security operations, such as intercepting shipments of explosives containing nails and metal balls destined for southern Beirut, and orders to transport them from Baalbek by individuals aligned with the party. These developments come amidst a U.S. decision to lift restrictions on air travel with Lebanon, reopening the direct flight route between the two countries and eliciting official relief, although it did not conceal the increasing security risks. Lebanese security agencies continue their investigations into the explosives case, while preparations are underway to establish a European mission to support the Lebanese army. However, the United States opposes extending the mandate of UNIFIL forces, emphasizing their failure and the changed circumstances that hinder achieving the state's sovereignty and regional security.
