Pakistan declares emergency in KP amid internal tensions
Pakistan is heading towards a sensitive political and constitutional test in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, which is controlled by the opposition. There is a possibility of imposing extraordinary measures, including declaring a state of emergency or transferring powers from the provincial government to the federally appointed governor. These moves come amid warnings of widespread protests and increased security preparations. This situation stems from deep-rooted disagreements between the federal government and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) movement led by Imran Khan. The federal government is considering utilizing constitutional provisions that allow for the declaration of a state of emergency or federal intervention. Meanwhile, the opposition continues to reject these measures, and the political and security crisis is escalating, potentially leading to parliamentary and popular confrontations.
