Teachers' Union protests contract suspensions

The Union of Contracted Teachers in Basic Education in Lebanon organized a protest sit-in in front of the Ministry of Education to express their rejection of Minister Rima Karamy's decision to freeze the contracts of 3,500 contracted teachers. This move has deprived them of work and wages, leading to a decline in education in public schools. The union voiced its concern over the reduction of teaching hours and the deterioration of the quality of education, as many students are missing essential subjects and facing disruptions in the school year due to overlapping issues within the educational system and the government’s neglect of the crisis. The union also called for the teachers to be returned to their classrooms and for justice and transparency in decision-making. They warned of the worsening state of public education and its impact on public trust, continuing protests and pressure to restore stability in schools.
