Iranian Guard suspected in Fairford incident
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said there is a significant possibility that the plot targeting Fairford Air Base was coordinated in Iran, and that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard is likely responsible for it. He affirmed that the UK will firmly confront the criminal threats financed by Iran and will impose additional sanctions to limit their capacity to cause harm. The incident began on September 27 when five British nationals in their twenties were arrested near the base; they were later released on bail while authorities examine potential charges or the involvement of another country. Additionally, the United States pointed to an Iranian plot to carry out a drone attack, and 29 countries issued a statement condemning Iran and its possible involvement in an attempt to target the base.
