Argentina reopens Iguazu Falls After Floods
The Iguazu Falls have reopened to visitors after Argentine authorities imposed a temporary closure due to a record-high flow of the Iguazu River caused by heavy rains linked to the El Niño phenomenon. The flow exceeded 12,000 cubic meters per second, more than six times the normal rate. The decrease in river flow allowed the resumption of tourist activities, with no fatalities or human damages reported. The El Niño phenomenon also caused the Paraná River's flow to increase by 37% in September and 40% since the beginning of October, along with evacuations due to floods in the Uruguay River. It is expected that rainfall will remain above average throughout the summer and autumn of 2027 in the region.
