U.S. and Rubio Seek Lebanon-Israel Talks
The news discusses the efforts of the United States and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio to complete the border negotiations between Lebanon and Israel, despite delays caused by Israeli elections and security events in the region. Sources confirm that solutions must begin by addressing Hezbollah's weapons, strengthening the state's authority over all Lebanese territory, and combating smuggling and money laundering along the Syrian border. The United States is focusing on the role of the Lebanese Army in managing the upcoming phase, especially after the withdrawal of UNIFIL forces, while assessing its capacity to implement a plan to disarm Hezbollah and manage sectarian balance. American missions have also visited Lebanon to discuss the army’s capabilities and prospects for normalization with Israel, while Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov reaffirmed Moscow’s support for Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity amid concerns over international reactions regarding the seizure of explosive materials in Lebanon.
