Hezbollah weapons threaten Lebanon
The U.S. State Department has confirmed that Hezbollah's weapons, recently seized in Lebanon, have only brought misery and destruction to the country. It also expressed support for the Lebanese government's efforts to control explosive materials and to detain those responsible. The Department indicated that Hezbollah poses an obstacle to peace and that the government should adopt a plan to disarm across all Lebanese territory in order to strengthen state authority and achieve stability. This came after two members of the group were detained while transporting around 500 kilograms of explosives, including TNT and C4, along the international road between eastern Lebanon and Beirut, reflecting increased concern over illegal arms in Lebanon.
