North Korea Finances Secret Texas Computer Farms
Two individuals have been detained in the United States, and more than 180 computers have been confiscated as part of an operation against a North Korean scheme aimed at illicit profits through remote work in the information technology sector. The probe involved searches at over 40 locations in Texas and led to fraud activities that raised over $3 million by employing North Korean citizens to deceive American employers. U.S. authorities have charged 14 people, including 10 in China, with money laundering and identity theft as part of Operation "Lone Star Round Up." It appears that the North Korean regime utilizes extensive software to recruit IT experts to generate illegal revenue, which may include developing weapons that pose a threat to the United States and its allies.
