Al-Zein supplies fire gear to Dennis
Environment Minister Tamara Al-Zein emphasized the importance of strengthening prevention measures and preparedness to confront forest fires in Lebanon. She confirmed that reliance on pre-planning, training, and early warning systems significantly contributes to reducing the loss of natural resources. She also pointed out the expansion of equipment readiness and training of local teams according to risk levels in the most fire-prone areas, which are selected based on annual fire data and risk-related information. Furthermore, she announced that the project, funded by the Global Environment Facility through the World Bank, has entered its implementation phase. This includes forming and training first responder teams and providing municipalities with equipment, all aimed at reducing fire spread and minimizing environmental damage. Past fires have destroyed approximately 550 hectares of protected natural areas in Jabal al-Reihan and other locations. Additionally, she discussed plans to create a protected natural reserve in al-Dinniyah to preserve biodiversity, with a focus on involving the local community in conservation and environmental rehabilitation efforts.
