Contracted Teachers Agency Warns of Action
Primary school teachers in Lebanon staged a protest after a month into the school year, in response to the Ministry of Education's decision to suspend 3,500 teachers working under the assistance system and the aid fund, as well as the closure of official schools and suspension of parts of the educational process. Their protest stems from the lack of adequate funding and the ongoing deepening of the financial crisis, despite the ministry receiving support from UNICEF amounting to $50 million for the previous year, along with $40 per Lebanese student and $80 per Syrian student. The association has launched a series of actions and protests and has stated that they will wait for a decision that guarantees teachers' return to schools before proceeding with any further action. They warned that protests could escalate if no such decision is announced by Sunday evening.
