Guterres Warns Ongoing Threats to Nature
The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, warned that the deterioration of nature continues and that global goals for biodiversity protection are not being achieved. He pointed out that the war against nature is still ongoing despite some progress, and that government policies are insufficient to halt the loss of natural diversity by 2030. The report confirmed that funding for nature conservation is limited, currently amounting to about $30 for every $1 invested in its restoration, with expectations of no new financial commitments during the COP17 conference in Yerevan. Guterres called for concrete actions beyond promises, emphasizing the need for countries to meet their financial commitments and achieve specific targets to address the decline of species and ecosystems.
