Malaysia Faces Toxic Haze From Indonesia
Southeast Asia, particularly Malaysia and Indonesia, is experiencing a wave of toxic haze resulting from ongoing forest fires in Indonesia. The ASEAN Meteorological Center issued the highest warning level after detecting intense activity of fire hotspots and the spread of moderate to dense haze over several days, with dry weather continuing and winds blowing toward neighboring countries. The haze has obscured famous landmarks in Kuala Lumpur, led to school closures, and caused an increase in respiratory illnesses. There are widespread warnings about deteriorating air quality, and authorities are holding Indonesian companies responsible for the fires, warning that the crisis could worsen.
