Who Will Decide on Power Funding
The article discusses the ongoing political disagreement in Lebanon over financing the electricity crisis, focusing on the lack of consensus on how and where to fund the increase in electricity production. Although the government has agreed to extend supply hours and settle overdue payments, disagreements remain regarding the source of funding. The Energy Minister continues to criticize the government’s performance, and the Ministry of Finance refuses to lend to the Electricity Corporation. The funding crisis revolves around turning approvals into actual decisions and the government's responsibility to finance public sector consumption. The Qatari Prime Minister announced that Qatar will fund the infrastructure development project for electricity, aimed at boosting production and reducing costs, without placing immediate financial burdens on the Lebanese treasury. This move is part of an effort to resolve the crisis through international cooperation, though challenges related to funding and internal coordination remain.
