Meretz Member Urged to Resign Over Falling Support
A colleague from the Meretz party publicly called on German Chancellor Friedrich Merz to resign due to his declining popularity to the level of "Liz Truss," a term used to compare with the former British Prime Minister's drop in popularity. The call came during the "Germany Day" conference in Bonn, where the young politician attributed the loss of public trust in the government mainly to increased debts and the worsening of pension benefits. Despite the call, Merz reaffirmed his commitment not to resign and to continue implementing reforms, even though his approval ratings have fallen to their lowest level since polling began in 1997.
