Free Patriot Movement reports energy sector corruption
Members of parliament and activists in Lebanon's energy sector have filed an official complaint regarding suspicions of corruption and financial waste within the energy industry. They revealed violations and unjustified costs that have led to losses of up to $7 million due to illegal fuel tanker imports and overcharges in fuel prices. Additionally, they uncovered unjustified increases amounting to approximately $180 million annually in gasoline and diesel prices, resulting from price liberalization decisions made without thorough studies. Furthermore, a 10% increase has been imposed on electricity generator bills, amid suspicions of corruption related to lack of transparency and illicit enrichment. The legal and judicial support aims to hold responsible parties accountable, uncover public funds misappropriation, and protect citizens' rights.
