Saudi Arabia and Israel security threats and normalization
U.S. President Donald Trump is working to strengthen normalized relations between Saudi Arabia and Israel, leveraging mutual security threats such as Iran-backed Houthi attacks that threaten the kingdom's infrastructure and economy. Although Washington believes there are greater opportunities for establishing formal ties between Riyadh and Tel Aviv, political obstacles remain, especially the Palestinian issue, with Saudi Arabia demanding a reliable path toward an independent Palestinian state—something Israel opposes. Additionally, upcoming Israeli elections and domestic pressures within the U.S. hinder immediate breakthroughs in normalization efforts. Meanwhile, regional tensions and security challenges are increasing, which may prompt Saudi Arabia and Israel to enhance their coordination and unofficial security understandings.
