Lebanon Urged to Maintain Neutrality
Reports indicate that Lebanon is facing escalations in both political and security spheres due to investigations into the explosive shipment discovered there, amid international calls to keep Lebanon neutral from Israeli-Iranian tensions. The United States has offered to end the presence of international forces in southern Lebanon before the end of the year, but Lebanon rejected this proposal, further intensifying the stances. The investigations relate to the shipment itself, with the Lebanese Foreign Minister calling for its referral to the Judicial Council, while Hezbollah has hinted at retaliatory measures if judicial summons are issued against its members. There is talk of marginalizing international mediation and shifting negotiations to a bilateral process. The Lebanese government is avoiding gradual escalation on the issue, while regional and international capitals are discussing the risks of heightened political and security tensions in Lebanon.
